Artist Statement - Art

A Journey.

My work deals with the experience and mapping of landscapes. My current projects focus on time, memory, travel and the presence one has where they live. Each individual person has their own personal map with the knowledge of where to go - this fascinates me. We all have our personal routes and memories of mobility. With the rise of technology there are now many ways to record the past but I am dealing with the human act of memory.

Mapping is a method of understanding where I am, and a process to collect information and re-remember experiences. Remembering the places I’ve been encourages the mind to travel. Charting presence and organising memories, captures experience, locates, arranges and secures the past - information that would otherwise be lost.

Working in print, paper cut, drawing and mixed media I am continuously constructing my own map of my presence. Experience becomes only a physical memory - a part of our past. Capturing mobility can provide evidence of my daily existence.
